Back to work today........if the paint from yesterday has set.......

No small amount of frustration today.....I think I painted for too long. You get tired, and make bad choices.....

What was effortless only awhile ago....now causes me so much thought. I need to stay loose, free and open to the possibilites. Open to let it just flow.......

Paris

I am currently focusing on Paris, and she is so coy and sophisticated. I love the way they come to life under the brushes and paints.

Pride

This piece can be read in two ways, one as a profile, the other as she is moving away from the viewer. I love her spirit, and her pride, and certainly I was feeling strong when I painted her. The women come to life, and have very distinct personalities. To me, they are actual women I have encountered in my travels.

Snow Flower

Because I am limited in space, and have a tiny car that cannot carry large canvases, I started working in multiple canvases and assembling them together, like postcards sent home to me from the exotic locations I was visiting in my imagination. This is the second triptych.

Spain

As the paintings progressed, I realized I was traveling the world in my mind, meeting beautiful young women who represented a country. I started to work in multiple canvases, like postcards, and paintings that could be sent home to me in a suitcase or smaller carrying case.

Tahiti Girl 2

This was the second painting, and she looks rather sad. I was pretty sad myself after not making it on the trip to Tahiti, and my emotions always surface in my work.

Tahiti Girl 1

I began this current body of work with Tahiti Girl 1. I was sheduled to fly to Tahiti in September of 2009, and at the last minute had to get off the plane. I was already traveling there in my mind, and this image was the result of this.
